Written by a Woman

An Author in the Making

Signe Lange hates her 9-to-5. All she wants is to make a living by writing smutty romance novels.

When one of her stories goes viral, her life long dream is suddenly within reach. The only issue is, the love interest is based off her extrememly attractive Chief Technology Officer, Zaid Ansara.

Zaid is doing his best to not let his small crush on the beautiful Signe Lange affect his job. He thinks nothing of it when he walks in on her doing a livestream. Until he learns exactly how much he resembles Signe’s main character.

Maybe Signe feels the same way about him too.

You Won’t Want to Put it Down

Written by a Woman is your typical out-there rom-com premise, executed amazingly by Andrea Andersen. I read this 384-page book in less than 24 hours, and I had the time of my life reading it. It’s one of those stories where you miss it as soon as you finish it.

The pacing was balanced perfectly, even with more serious and slow pace scenes I never felt bored. This is a testement to the fact that Andrea has written a great book that not only features the main story of the main characters, but both Signe and Zaid have their own established lives with other things going on with family and friends. All of this is interwoven into the main story and truely makes the characters feel real.

Diversity Galore

Andrea has also created a unique and diverse cast throughout the story. Many, if not all, the characters come from different backgrounds and have different experiences of how they ended up in the tech industry. I would love to see this world and these characters expanded on in further books. I am so excited because Andrea has set up Written by a Woman to do this exact thing.

Balancing Funny with Serious

Although Written by a Woman is a true rom-com with all the laugh-out-loud, squealing, kicking-your-feet giddiness that readers of the genre love, the story also touches on more serious subject matter as well. A major theme throughout the book and represented with many varying characters’ experiences, is women in tech and the struggles women face in professional work environments.

I want to thank Andrea for not just including this, but doing so while emphasising that it’s not a one-experience-fits-all situation. By depicting multiple characters circumstances, Andrea shows the readers that your story may not be the same as other peoples, but that doesn’t make it any less valid.

Characters Written by a Women

As I said earlier, Andrea has written her characters to be authentic and real. Zaid is the epitome of men written by women (which I believe is the intention given that it’s a rom-com titled Written by a Woman). He is supportive, caring, open to criticism and making change, sensitive, intentional and thoughful. He is extremely easy to fall in love with and I honestly don’t blame Signe for basing her main character off of him.

Then we have our amazing Signe. She is creative, confident, strong, supportive, kind, brave, caring and a true girl’s girl. She is everything I want in a best friend, and she just warms my heart. And on top of all of that she is chasing her dreams. If nothing else, that makes her an incredible role model.

Favourite Quotes

My name is Signe Lange, and I hate pretending that I like working.

I loved all of my curves, and how I could easily crush the heads of my enemies in between them if I needed to.

Mary was the only uterus owner on this side of the building. All the other software engineers, except for Alice who hadn’t started yet, were men. Men, with their useless penis’s that didn’t bleed once a month.

I saw Signe first, though. I was more than willing to uphold dibs against a three-year-old.

She was married, had a cute little girl with a second kiddo on the way. Whereas I researched how difficult it would be to take care of a goldfish over the weekend. Then I decided I didn’t want the responsibility of taking care of a goldfish.

“Then grow a pair of ovaries, own up to your choices.”

“But people—mostly men—love to find any excuse to tear down and invalidate something universally loved by women, right? Especially if that woman is in a position of superiority over them.”

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of rom-coms, if you like feeling giddy and having your cheeks hurt from smiling too much or if you crave second-hand embarrassment, laughing-out-loud and kicking your feet while squealing. Then I promise Written by a Woman was written for you.
